Members of the group were quick to offer solutions to the woman.

One person suggested that eucalyptus oil mixed with hot water should work a treat, while several users suggest using the ever-popular Bissell spot cleaner.

'Make a paste of bicarb and vinegar and paint it on. Let it dry and vacuum off,' one person said.

Another added: 'I'd try polident tablets in water - it seems to work on everything else.'

A further user jokingly added they used the polident tablets in water as well, but had to do the process twice.

One woman appeared to find the ultimate solution.

'So I have made up a paste of Napisan, coated it on super thick and let it dry out in the sun, I then rinsed well repeatedly with a wet cloth and it came up wonderfully,' she wrote.

'A professional cleaner didn't remove the stains - I had tried - but the Napisan did.'

Others offered reasons why mattress protectors are extremely important.

'I bought a protector, cost $100, but [has a] 25 year warranty. Sorry can't remember the name but from a bed store. I strip soak protector every six months,' one said after revealing her husband has the same habit.

The woman clarified that she will be quick to buy a mattress protector in the future.
