Use of Funds for Personal Use

The police investigated the matter and found that Silva is using funds for her own expense. Escalon Police Chief Gus Flores reported the matter. The report states that Silva started a fundraiser for the Oakdale Inferno Cheer. The fund will be used to pay for a trip to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. They invited the cheerleading team the team to participate in the event. They deposited the money at a local bank under the name of Oakdale Inferno Cheer.

The Oakdaleleader shared the details of the investigation:

“On Oct. 5 the reporting party … came to the police department to report that her daughter’s cheerleading coach, Samantha Silva, out of Escalon had been taking money from a cheerleading bank account and was using it for her own personal gain,” Escalon Police Department officials noted, adding that Silva was also identified as the head coach of the travel cheerleading team called the Oakdale Inferno Cheer.

On Friday, Silva spoke with a police officer in relation to the case. Around 3 pm she admitted to her crime, and the police made the arrest. Officer Sean Jumaoas spoke with the accused and she provided a statement admitting to taking money. According to her, she did this because she was in a lot of Financial Trouble. As a result, she used the money for her personal use. She is taking money from July 2023 for her personal use.

Samantha Marie Silva- A Fraud in Disguise

This is not the first time a teacher has committed fraud and the consequences could be devastating for the students. Since the money is going to be used by the cheerleading team, any shortage of funds will hamper their participation in the event. As a coach of the team, Silva should make sure that the team takes part in the event.

The decision is still pending, but it looks like Silva is the major culprit. As a teacher, she did something which no one expected. $45000 is not a small amount. Using this amount of money for personal use is not at all right. What do you feel should be the punishment for Silva? Should she stay as the coach of the team?
