Fiona Apple has admitted that marijuana and hashish found on her tour bus at a border stop in Texas on Wednesday, leading to her arrest, was hers.

Police from the Hudspeth County Sheriff's Office said officers performed a routine search of Apple's 2004 tour bus when it entered the US border patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca. Sniffer dogs detected the presence of 0.01 pounds of marijuana and 0.01 pounds of hash in a blue backpack.

Police said Apple "freely admitted" the drugs were hers, according to a report on TMZ, and she was placed under arrest. She spent the night in jail and was released on Thursday on a $10,000 (£6,156) bond.

Stars including Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg have previously been arrested on similar charges in Sierra Blanca.

Apple, 35, won a Grammy for best female rock vocal performance for the single Criminal in 1996. Her fourth album, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, was released earlier this year.
