She went from portraying a New York City-based wizard to a princess saving “bait girl.” Selena Gomez had several roles with the television network, Disney Channel. Here’s what we know about the star of the sitcom Wizards of Waverly Place.

Selena Gomez starred in Disney Channel’s ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’

Everything is not what it seems. Along with That’s So Raven and Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place cemented its place as a favorite among Disney Channel viewers. Gomez starred as the main character, a spunky wizard from New York named Alex Russo.

In fact, this New York City-based series has the highest number of episodes in Disney Channel history. With 106 episodes, it far surpasses originals like The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (87 episodes) and Good Luck Charlie (97 episodes.)

Which other Disney Channel original shows did Selena Gomez appear in?

Alex Russo and the rest of her family travelled outside of New York City, and not just in the wizard portal. For one episode of the comedy series The Suite Life on Deck, Gomez appeared alongside the other Wizards of Waverly Place cast members.

Besides her Wizards of Waverly Place character, Gomez had cameos in a few other Disney Channel projects. In The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, she played Zack and Cody’s classmate Gwen.

In Hannah Montana, she played Miley Stewart’s rival, the popstar Mikayla. During 2009, she starred in the Disney Channel original movie, titled Princess Protection Program, alongside Sonny With a Chance and Camp Rock star, Demi Lovato.

Selena Gomez reprised her role as Alex Russo for ‘Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie’

When the Russo family went on vacation in Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, things got even more complicated when it turned into the family wizard competition and Alex’s relationship with her mother hit an all-time low. This feature film debuted in 2009 and starred Gomez as the main character.

With her beauty line, music, and collaboration with HBO MAX, it’s unclear if Gomez would return for a spinoff of this series. However, it’s not completely out of the question. Recently, Raven-Symoné returned to Disney Channel to reprise her role as Raven Baxter from That’s So Raven.

“There’s a lot of talk. We all talk about it for fun. Nothing is official. We’ve talked about it Greg [Sulkin,] Selena [Gomez, and] me,” actor David Henrie said of a potential reboot or spinoff, during one interview with People. “Everyone would be down, but it’s just a matter of time I think.”

Episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place and the movie, Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie, are available for binge-watching on Disney’s streaming platform. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website.
